Happy Holidays!

Just wanted to wish you all a very Happy Holiday and all the very Best for the New Year.
Some of you may have seen this little project I designed and shared on Facebook and my blog - it is using a technique specific to a region in Germany - Schwalm embroidery... it is amazing how similar so many techniques are and yet the regional flavors make them so distinct.
May the New Year bring you all many hours of stitching enjoyment !

Mary Ann Macdonald is finally home

I just got Mary back from the framers.  She has been gone quite a long time, but worth the wait.  Now, the decision as to where to hang her.  My guess is, I'll have to move a few samplers closer together, to get her in.

If you look closely, in the bottom right had side, you will see a needle and thread, below the pond.  Marsha mentioned the original she found  a needle and thread, when she unframed the antique.  Here is a close-up.

Also, I received my Eleanor Parr, but can't decide if I should put down Frances Marshall.  I'll probably work hard to finish Frances, after the holidays.

I am excited to work Eleanor.  I picked a 45count linen, with the antique silk conversion.  I am going to stitch the two young ladies in stem stitch.  After talking with Nicola, we both thought this would look lovely.

Merry Christmas
Happy Holiday
Looking forward to Our New Year Together.

It's Coming On Christmas.........

It's coming on Christmas. They're cutting down trees..........

Hello Everyone,

As Christmas lights twinkle, cookies are baking, stockings are hanging and the scent of pine from our tree fills up the house, I find myself remembering the happy moments of 2014 and feeling so thankful for the people that I have in my life. It is important to me that the people who are part of my days realise that they are important to me, that they have touched a special place in my heart and made 2014 a happier year just because they have been there!

All of you here on these two blogs have done that for me this year and I wanted you to know that. I have so enjoyed seeing the samplers that you have been stitching and sharing in the parts of your life that you have written about on these blogs. You have enriched my life in countless ways and have made my stitching journey a happy one, filled with beautiful samplers and countless friendships! All of you are important to me and I wanted to say "thank-you"  for helping to make 2014 a good year!

I also wanted to let you know that I have tried something new this year. I am not really a computer person and when our group moved over to Facebook I was not sure if that was for me. I love our blogs. To me it feels like home! I love that I can read your post with a cup of tea and just drool over all of the samplers that you are stitching. Like all of you my plate is full during the day and I was worried about trying something new, especially something that I was not familiar with......but curiosity got the better of me and I hopped on over and made an account, joined our group over there and have enjoyed every minute of it! Nicola and Krista have done an outstanding job and they work really hard to make everyone feel welcome and valued. I have seen samplers that I have not noticed before ( and believe me I do not know how that could possibly be....but there it is...grins... ), I have fallen in love with beautiful antique scissors, I have met new friends and run into "old" ones and learned so much about samplers and all things sampler related. The conversations are fun to follow and I am learning my way around...slowly...LOL...but I am getting there. So if any of you were thinking about following on Facebook, it is fun and you will certainly be welcome!

Elizabeth Shephard and SDW are all ready for me to begin stitching and I am really looking forward to the 2015 SAL. I will start with those but many more are calling my name. I am feeling way more comfortable with speciality stitches and there are a few band samplers that are calling the loudest....not to mention Sophia's sampler..... so we will see just what the New Year will bring :) Either way it is looking like it will be a great stitching year on our blogs and on Facebook and I am excited about all of it.

So whether you are starting on a new sampler or continuing on with an " old friend" I will look forward to stitching throughout 2015 with you, my dear stitching friends.

Merry Christmas and may you all have a blessed New Year!

Manifesto Update

Well is has been two weeks since I started stitching the Manifesto. This was purchased from the Sccarlet Letter in kit form with 40 count linen..... but, I had to order a second piece because i had a brain cramp with putting the linen on the frame.  My frame is 36 in wide and the linen was just a little to big and had to be cut down. Remember the old rule measure twice cut once? well....I did that....telling myself the finished piece is 30 inches wide and cut the linen at 30 inches, OPPS! Needless to say the piece of linen is being saved for another day. Also in the kit was the silk. I have stitched several hours a day far from the goal i wanted of 3 inches by one inch per day. I have to say that I am enjoying this piece, taking a small section and only looking at that as a goal. I do not look at the Manifesto as a whole because it may become to over whelming to continue stitching. By breaking this into small goals I feel good to get stitched the sun and background. Next will be to finish the sun and stitch the clouds and shy background. I will deside after that because I will not look any further until I get that far. I imagine it will be a day or two after Christmas before I post my next progress, wish me luck! May everyone have a very  good and peaceful holiday!! Bob

Progress nine.

Already have more color.
I'm very slow, and will continue next year.

Betsy Manchester

Betsy Manchester is from Scarlet Letter I love this sampler it is done in the linen and floss that is in the kit I stitched this in 2014 after I finished The Manifesto

Rachel Jarratt

Not much of a start .........

If I am  feeling down, my way of attempting to lift my spirits is to start a new cross stitch piece, ignoring my very many WIP's .  Mt start of Rachel Jarratt is one such attempt.   Here is where I stopped.
